The trio has done it again. Sweden-based Claesson Koivisto Rune has designed this stunning art gallery- ORSTA Gallery in Kulma, Sweden.

An art-piece itself, ORSTA Gallery is a gallery of modern art, sited atop an artificial hill, the building's base follow the hill's topology. The resulting series of curves, combined with mirroring roof-line curves, make the planer facades seem curved from top and bottom. Furthermore, the narrow facade openings, makes the 6.7 metres tall building difficult to judge from a distance.

The interior is divided into four different sizes gallery, has both central cross access and complete side circulation. The white painted facades are coated with three tons of special reflective glass beads that work in a similar way as the reflective element in zebra crossing. If viewed from the same angle as the incident light source, the gallery glows as if lit from within. The artificial red light effect, 'Husfenomen', is a site specific art work by Mikael Pauli.

Claesson Koivisto Rune started as an architectural office but soon became multi-disciplinally design practise. Some of their works are Belle Ring Holder for Skultuna, Snowflakes Tables and Parupu Children's Chair.

Field of Light by Bruce Munro

Acclaimed lighting artist Bruce Munro is bringing his Field of Light to the Holburne Museum in Bath from 26 November 2011 to 8 January 2012.

Field of Light at the Holburne Museum will consist of 5,220 of acrylic stems, each crowned with a frosted sphere and linked with fiber-optic cable- planted in the grounds of the Museum and flowing into the Garden Cafe. To be lit by a colour projector, the result is quite magical, as both colour and light flow through the bulbs to create a uniquely captivating experience.

The Field of Light was inspired nearly twenty years ago while Munro traveling in Australia Red Desert. He became transfixed by the way in which the barren dessert would burst into bloom after rainfall. Field of Light too lies dormant during the hours of day light, but when darkness falls the bulbs flower with gentle rhythms of light and patterns of colour.

The light installation at the time of Christmas season will let visitors & residents around Bath to enjoy the magical experience as a number of bulbs will cascade across the front lawn of the Museum. Bruce Munro says, "I'll be happy if it makes people smile at Christmas time."

kraft paper lounger by molo design

Famed for their Paper Softwall which earned the permanent collection by the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, Molo Studio is expanding the collection by introducing a series of softseating, a continuation of the Paper softwall project.

Utilizing a honeycomb structure to fan open into stools, benches, and loungers, each softseating has magnetic end panels, allowing an element to connect to itself, forming a cylindrical stool or low table, or to connect to other elements of the same size in series, creating long winding benches and endless possibilities for seating topographies. The beauty of these pieces is that they are sculptural abstract forms, each made from a single material, that can be used creatively and interchangeably as seating or low tables.

Based in Vancouver, Canada, Molo Studio is a collaborative design and production studio led by Stephanie Forsythe, Todd MacAllen and Robert Pasut.

Urville-The Imaginative City

Urville, a capital city with a population of nearly 12 million, making it one of Europe's most significant cities. It is also entirely imaginary.

Gilles Tréhin, an autistic French with exceptional creative talents has been drawing since age 5, but at age 12 he began designing an imaginary city he named URVILLE, which is described in great detail from the remarkable architectural to the thoughtful cultural context rooted in real world history. Since then Tréhin has spent over 20 years to conceive and develop 'Urville', a name comes from "Dumont d'Urville", which is a scientific base, in a French territory of the Antarctic.

He shares his vision in this beautifully illustrated guide to the city, which he renders convincingly real in nearly 300 drawings of different districts of Urville. All the drawings, come from the 5 main very large general views of the different sectors of the city. There is an example of a large view at the beginning of this text. Each of the smaller views show details of the streets, squares and various monuments of Urville.

This book written by Tréhin, "Urville's Guided Tour," offers fascinating evidence of and insight into the creative power of the autistic mind and will be of interest to people with autism and without.

Who doesn't love the new TV shows about the storage
unit auctions.
I currently work for a large storage facility company
with
storage units in Rancho Cucamonga
as well as in parts of Utah,
Idaho, and Colorado and love hearing about cool stuff
people find in storage facilities. However, though it
may seem like a glamorous profession there are some
units that you would just not want to be anywhere near.
That is why I thought it would be funny to make a list
about what not to store in your storage locker.

1. Food

I hope I don't have to tell you that perishable
food items such as fruit and leftover meat from
your latest barbeque should not be stored in
storage units. However, many people are using
storage units to store their
emergency food storage supplies.
Keep in mind that in case of an emergency it
may be harder to acquire your food storage if
your car was destroyed during the disaster, or
even worse the
storage facility along
with your food. Keep that stuff close to home.

2. Drug Paraphernalia

More often than you may think there are drug sniffing
dogs searching for hidden stashes of drugs in storage
units. For some reason Drug lords love to use
storage facilities as stash houses. Maybe it is
for the convenience or the climate controlled
feature that many storage facilities are offerings.
Either way if there are drug sniffing dogs on the
premises you don't want them actually sniffing you out.
We recommend staying away from drugs all together,
however, if you must then keep them away from anywhere
the DEA commonly visits.

3. Your Past

Let's face it, we have all done things that
we shouldn't have done. Most likely there are records
of these unproud moments in our lives in the forms of
pictures or other related objects. Though it may have
been cool then, or you may have been proud of a certain
lewd act, there is no reason to keep evidence lying around.
The last thing you want is your kids, wife, or even
the police involved in investigating for any reason
into your past. So please heed my advice and destroy all evidence!

Now that you know what not to keep at your storage
unit I encourage you to go get a trash bag and start
to find new homes for your "stuff."

Nokia Lumia 800 Illuminate London's Skyline in 4D

To celebrate the launch of Nokia new smartphone Lumia 800, Nokia is bringing together world renowned producer, deadmau5 and the world's leading 4D projection team for an unprecedented projection show on this November 28.

Plans are to put on a spectacular light show on the full length of the 120 meter building of London's Millbank Tower. The show will use the 800 windows of the skyscraper as the canvas for the spectacle accompanied by a live music performance. deadmau5 will be performing two new tracks created especially for the event.

The 30-minute show will be able to be viewed from both the north and south sides of the River Thames, and will also be broadcast live online on Nokia UK's Facebook page.

Known as a "4D" projection (a term the team made up to distinguish it from normal projections), the 4D team scanned the exterior of the tower using lasers, and built a 3D model of it accurate to within 5mm. They then create animations and map them exactly to the building. The Millbank Tower will be effectively blacking out to project images of it back onto the building.

Of course, the show will culminate with a giant mobile phone appearing to mark the launch of Nokia's Lumia 800- to signals a new dawn for the company.

Passive House by Architect Lieselotte Steurbaut

The house for Belgium architect Lieselotte Steurbaut is a wooden house constructed in only 6 months, with a budget of 1.140 euro/m2 and a monthly gas and electricity bill of 10 euros. The house in every way is a fine example of green residential where energy efficiency, reducing ecological footprint is the priority.

Everywhere we heard & knew that constructing a green building will be more expensive than a conventional building. But the Passive House is an answer to the challenge of an 'economic house'.

Build on a small plot, this compact size, relatively close-looking cube house, which is perpendicular to the south from a big bite taken and windows provided, that act as the 'radiator' for the house. A timber frame, with ThermoWood wall paneling, wood joinery, and a complete interior finishing in OSB (Oriented strand board).

Reduced pipe lengths for ventilation, water, gas, electricity provides a simple technical installation. All rooms were place together to reduced the used on walls which leave plenty of free space for creativity and family gathering.

Bracelli, Muletas, and Cajones Lamp-Sculptures by Salvador Dali

The year 2009 marked the 20th Anniversary of the death of this brilliant universal artist and Barcelona-based Bd wishes to add its special homage by producing a special limited edition of his fantastic furniture collection.

Since Dali never specified which materials he would want his furniture to be made from, the challenge for the Bd team was to balance the tastes of the painter and production viability. All the finishing's are based on black, with aged black patina on the casted brass, Black Marquina marble for the famous egg, darkened gold leaf and dyed lime wood satin in black for the upholstery and lingerie chiffon, also black for the lamp shades. Refined materials and handcrafted manufacturing to bring up to date a furniture collection thatBd has sold exclusively all over the world since the 90s, guaranteed by The Gala Salvador Dali Foundation responsible for the painter's rights. The black label collection comes to market in a limited edition of 105 pieces (the age of Dali in 2009).

When with Robert Descharnes we chose projects for furniture from the ideas with which Dali had filled his note pad for his work with Jean-Michel Frank, we had to imagine the colours which Salvador would have chosen to make his single-colour drawings, and we did soremembering the preferences and obsessions of the maestro (gold, Carmin Schiaparelli…). The furniture was really very much in Dali style, but difficult to combine in not absolutely surrealistic interiors. When we made a Leda chair with aged black patina for a special set-up and observed the enthusiastic reaction of the professionals, we were convinced that these crazy objects would look much less controversial in a decor if they were dyed black. From my extensive work with the Maestro I feel that this collection would meet his approval and I am absolutely sure that Gala would prefer it to the multicolour. Oscar Tusquets

Initiated by Electrolux, Vac from the Sea is a project aiming at raising awareness about the immediate need for the world to take better care of plastics and support the heroes that do. Plastic is the main raw material when making a vacuum cleaner. From a sustainable business point of view, Electrolux relies on an increased global supply of recycled plastic.

The project will see a limited number of Electrolux vacuum cleaners to be made from marine plastic debris – harvested from the Pacific and other sites where the plastic problem is immense.Depending on the local plastic situation the gathering of plastics will vary – from diving among coral reefs, clean-ups closer to shore to scooping up plastic directly from the water surface. The vacuum cleaners that are to be produced from the material gathered will be put on display for the world, decision makers and consumers to see.

Wind Paintings by Bob Verschueren

Artist Bob Verschueren 'painted' these Wind Paintings from the 1970s and 1980s on empty and desolate landscape with the help of wind.

He used crushed charcoal, iron oxide, chalk, terra verte, flour, yellow ochre, terre de Cassel, burnt and natural umber, which was then laid out in a linear motif on the land. Verschueren would wait for the wind to distribute the coloured pigments and materials over the land. The resulting work was a stunning collaboration between man and nature. The artwork usually only last a few hours, before the wind that created them likewise blows them away.

Reading Between The Lines by Gijs Vaerenbergh

A collaboration between young Belgian architects Pieterjan Gijs and Arnout Van Vaerenbergh, Reading Between The Lines is a see-through church in the Belgian region of Haspengouw. Part of the Z-OUT exhibition project, an initiative in which Z33, the contemporary art museum of the city of Hasselt, presents art in public space.

Constructed in the rural landscape, by a cycle route, that's based on the design of the local church. This 'church' consists of 30 tons of steel and 2000 columns, and is built on a fundament of armed concrete. Through the use of horizontal plates, the concept of the traditional church is transformed into a transparent object of art. Depending on the perspective of the viewer, the church is either perceived as a massive building or seems to dissolve – partly or entirely – in the landscape. On the other hand, looking at the landscape from within the church, the surrounding countryside is redefined by abstract lines.

Reading between the lines can be read as a reflection on architectural themes such as scale, the ground plan etc., but the project also emphatically transcends the strictly architectural. After all, the church does not have a well-defined function and focuses on visual experience in itself.

World Record Balloon Performing for Michelle Obama

The Guinness Book of world record-holding balloon performer John Cassidy performs a balloon act for the US first lady, Michelle Obama, at the White House on Oct 11, 2011. Cassidy performed for kids on the South Lawn before the First Lady launched a challenge to break the Guinness World Records title for the most people doing jumping jacks in a 24-hour period.

Dancing Colors by Markus Reugels

German hobby photographer, Markus Reugels has turned photographing water-drops into a new science and art form. These photoshots could be easily mistaken for images taken far outer space, or something from a science-fiction film.

What Markus Reugels does is combining water droplets with food coloring and creative lighting to make these vibrant images, which were only able to be captured with high-speed camera equipment.

Markus, who proudly reveals his images are free from color and computerized manipulation, used a sensor to trigger the camera because the water falls too fast for his finger to operate the shutter.

An extremely fast shutter speed of of up to 1/16,000 per second allowed him to capture detail the human eye could never see.

The end result shows how the artist is making quite a splash with his unique works.

Giant Red Rabbit Leaping at Sacramento Airport's Terminal B

One of the 14 art pieces at Sacramento Airport's newly open Terminal B, the 56-feet-long, 19-feet tall "Leap", a red rabbit made of steel and aluminum by Denver artist Lawrence Argent is an eye-catching public art for everybody in & out of the airport.

To integrate art into the airport architecture and utilizing the unique open/transparent aspect of the airport with the green space to the south, Lawrence Argent will bring the outside in with a sculpture titled, Leap. A rabbit appears to have leapt through the glass from the green space on the south side of the terminal and is diving into a suitcase that appears to have a liquid vortex opening on the top which is situated on the floor of baggage claim.

The rabbit is red to emphasize speed and our inherent desire to get to our "stuff" as quickly as possible. The artist says, "…Loose it, misplace it and disaster can erupt. Possess it, and it fills the gap of distance from home. What is it about our baggage that defines the nature of this emotion of connection with our stuff and who we are?" The rabbit was selected because its symbolism works on many levels. The rabbit is a symbol for cleverness, foolishness, of femininity and androgyny, of cowardice and courage.

Colour Trends For 2012

It's October now, and the world's largest paints company, AkzoNobel (Dulux) is releasing their Color Futures 2012, which present one dominant trend and five relating trends. The single color that best sums up the prevailing mood, attitude and fashion of the time is deemed the Color of the Year 2012.

Trend 1: Living Scrapbook
Our preoccupation with documenting and sharing our lives has become multi facetted with the likes of Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and a myriad of blogs all allowing you to invite people into your personal, self designed zone. This culture of showcasing 'who I am' has crossed over into the physical world and influenced how we present ourselves through our homes.

This palette reflects the quirky aesthetics of blogs and social media. Happy, yet mature pastels beloved by designers like Ray and Charles Eames. This collection is modern but ever so slightly degraded and non-mainstream.

Trend 2: One Small Seed
We can't save the world on our own, but we can enjoy the small wander of nurturing our own plants at home and creating new life from one small seed. Growing our own food helps us reconnect with the importance and delicate balance of nature. Plants are no longer simply decoration but a vital part of our interior environment.

Nature inspires a palette of watery greens, fresh sky blue and earthy neutrals with deeper accents of dark soil, leaf green and bright pink and red blooms. Which one will you choose?

Trend 3: Rediscovered Heroes
Hard times have their advantages; they prompt us to look around at what is already there and find new ways of using it. Abandoned buildings and discarded objects are re-invigorated and re-imagined to create useful and individual design. It's time to celebrate the humble lamp post, paperclip and milk bottle as heroes of design.

This palette rejoices in the down to earth colors of our industrial heritage. Denim blue, rusty metal tones, concrete grey and sewing machine green are accented with signal brights inspired by the bold hues of wires and pipes.

Trend 4: Delicate Mix
In times of turbulence we are attracted to design which offers silence and visual stillness. Very simple, beautifully made pieces are a real luxury and exude subtlety and refinement. A juxtaposition of materials creates the perfect balance and the smooth lines and polished surfaces demonstrate the love and care that has been taken to produce them.

If you're feeling elegant and understated, these might be the colors for you. Refined neutrals, warm caramels, and blushing corals paired with polished concrete, wood tones and a hit of copper orange to add spice.

Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta Sets New World Record?

The 40th Annual Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta lifted off from 1st October till 9th October in Albuquerque, New Mexico as hundreds of balloons sailed into the crisp autumn air. The festival is expected to attract 800,000 balloon enthusiasts from all over the world to the 365-acre Balloon Fiesta Park. 555 balloons and 600 pilots from worldwide are registered for the nine-days event.

For the first day, the fiesta has set the world record for most balloons launched in one hour, sending 345 hot air balloons into the sky from Balloon Fiesta Park. Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, Inc. is seeking the world record for the greatest mass hot air balloon ascent in one hour from Guinness World Records.

Earlier this year, the 12th Lorraine World Air Balloon Festival in Chambley-Bussieres, France launched 343 hot air balloons in one hour.

The Pearl Solar Homes by Solaleya

Dubbed 'The Pearl', Solaleya's latest sustainable house designed by French designer David Fanchon is aiming for LEED Platinum certification. This completely customizable structure can be sized between 500 to 5,000 square feet with a bevy of layout options and finishes available. This specific structure is inspired from a seashell which offers great structural strength and aerodynamics.

The Pearl was designed with both the Sun's daily and year-round course in mind. Its shape is optimized to take advantage of the Sun's benefits when needed and to protect from its harsher heat when necessary. The front of the structure offers large bay windows to take advantage of the Sun's heat in the winter while being completely protected by its adapted roof during summer's warmer days, therefore keeping the house's interior naturally cooler. This translates into a highly energy efficient home where the need to artificially heat and cool your interior is tremendously reduced. Its unique shape and inclinable solar panels provide maximized solar energy gains and additional shade when necessary. The roof's shape along with the use of thick wooden arches procures the structure with great resistance against earthquakes and high winds, providing inhabitants with the incomparable comfort and safety of a cocoon.

Beside the sustainability features, Fanchon's philosophy behind The Pearl's design is "Functional Beauty: create ideal conditions for people to live and blossom in harmony with our environment." The open layout allows light to fill the entire house without any obstruction giving its inhabitants a full 180º panoramic view. Engineer turns mass-produced Ferrari into a classic replica

Classic car enthusiast Arturo Alonson, who also an engineer has transformed a £30,000 Ferrari 456 into a rare classic Ferrari 340 model worth £655,000.

Launched in 1952, the Ferrari 340 was designed for the legendary Carrera Panamericana road race in Mexico and was limited to just three models.

Arturo Alonson converted the chassis of a Ferrari 456 with a modern twist, retaining the car's mechanical with power coming from a 5.4-litre V12 engine boasting 476bhp to give it a top speed of around 185mph. He has also remodeled the car's interior and fitted new wheels and brakes.

But when you sit on it and you'll discover that it's a silky smooth textile with photorealistic wood print cover the stress-resistant polyurethane foam and polyester fiberfill on a hardwood frame, the only real wood are the legs.

With the use of photographic images to create an illusion of movement in the objects and to twist the experience of their shape and materiality, the images make the cushions of the sofa balance on their edges, turn a flat surface into one richly draped with fabric, and make a wooden surface soft. Giant Floating Opera Set on surface of Lake Constance

A giant floating stage set up for director Keith Wamer's production of Italian musician Umberto Giordano's opera "Andre Chenier" on Lake Constance, Austria. The director have chosen The Death of Marat, an iconic painting by the revolutionary artist Jacques-Louis David, as the symbol and inspiration for their staging of André Chénier. The opera takes place at the height of the French Revolution, performed on an almost 78-foot high statue of a dying Jean-Paul Marat sinking in the water, which depicts the murdered revolutionary slumped over in his bathtub. On the left of the Marat figure sits an open book where performers will emerge, and to the right, a giant gold mirror.

"André Chénier" is the tragic love story of an idealistic French poet who fought for the Revolution before the tides were turned when a revolutionary's bitter jealousy results in a sentence to the guillotine for the poet.

Dot Boots by Manolo Blahnik & Damien Hirst

When two of the world renowned artists joined force, Manolo Blahnik- a shoe designer and Damien Hirst- an artist famed for his spot painting, a 'Dot' Boots was born. Exploiting the Pop and Op evocations of Hirst's pattern of identically sized dots evenly spaced on a grid, Blahnik reprises the 1960s "go-go" boot. Coincidentally, this collaboration predated by a few months Louis Vuitton's launch of its Takashi Murakami patterned bags.

"I have always been an admirer of Damien Hirst, so I jumped at the opportunity to work with his prints. I made two boots—both very simple because I wanted Mr. Hirst's work to be the main focus and not the shoes. One is this from the 'Spots' series, and the other a 'Splash.' Of the two, this is my favorite. Spots have always been a favorite theme with me, but I love the way that Hirst places them in this rigid, repetitive format. It looks very disciplined but at the same time is very playful—thanks to the fun colors that represent chemicals, giving the whole piece a dark undertone, which I find very clever." —Manolo Blahnik

Studio Dreimann creates and designs consumer goods, industrial goods and furniture. Jonas Ette, Simon Kux, Tim Prigge first met while studying product design at the University of Applied Sciences of Hannover. In spring of 2010 they founded their own design studio in Hannover (Germany). The intention of their design is to add emotional appeal to visually familiar things with a new, simple function and to provide them a timeless touch. The service includes a detailed research and analysis of the client and the respective market. It is important for Studio Dreimann to include the customers philosophy and history and to enrich his product range with new impulses. The resulting findings will be implemented in ideas and designs in close cooperation with the clients. Studio Dreimann visualizes in sketches, prototypes and CAD models.

World's Steepest Roller Coaster

The Takabisha ride at Japan's Fuji-Q Highland Amusement Park has set a new record as the steepest roller-coaster of the world.

The recently-built, $37 million attraction-The Takabisha (or "dominant," in English) have 0.6 miles of track, seven major twists and that stomach-churning plummet.

The rides will first treats to the beautiful views of Mount Fuji on the way up. But it was a different story after the ride reached its highest point and began its breathtaking 141ft vertical freefall at 121 degrees. Riders will be hurtled around the track at 62 miles per hour, meaning that the ride, and the views of the nearby Mount Fuji, will last just 112 seconds. They'll also experience a split second of weightlessness as they nosedive down the mountainous drop.

2012 Olympic torch by Barber Osgerby

Barber Osgerby, the name behind the fame 2012 London Olympic torch designers have unveiled their latest prorotype for the Olympic torch recently. With its triangular form and 8,000 holes referencing the number of people who will carry it, the torch is 800mm and 800g crafted from an aluminium alloy developed for the aerospace and automotive industry. The 70-day Olympic Torch Relay starts from Land's End on 19th May 2012 and an average of 110 people per day will be carrying the Olympic Flame across the UK before the lighting of the Olympic cauldron on the 27th July. Barber Osgerby is formed by designers Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby in 1996.

To celebrate the students graduation day, the Wuhan University faculty set up a special photo session by placing a walkway under water on a flooded lakeside park. The students are so excited at their graduation ceremony they're walking on water & posing for unbelievable photos!
