JOIN Table by DING3000

Posted: 28 Jun 2012 08:30 AM PDT

I must say that the trio behind DING300 are the designer to watch for in 2012. Their designs, their creations are too good to ignore. After the beautiful JOIN Cutlery created last year, they designed the JOIN Table, simply based on the same principle.

The inspiration for the table-top support of JOIN TABLE was an ancient Japanese game. Three legs can be fitted into each other without any tools by means of the simple but enigmatic principle of the devils knot and merge to one mysterious object. The simplicity in assembly without using any tool, and ease of carry make this a nice table for outdoor picnic!

Posted: 19 Jun 2012 09:06 AM PDT

As part of their plan to introduced new premium flavor infused dairy, Schepps Dairy, a well-known Texas dairy provider since 1942 has approached designer Michael Garrett to design the new milk products to get consumers interested in milk again.

In re-brand and packaging the new line, Michael Garrett has put forward a bold move- a dominance black color bottle to distinguish itself from the traditional white bottle. The used of curve line & typography were nicely handle. Together with the unusual cork cap & peeled off label, the packaging really gives a sense of high quality & premium.

Deserted Fake Disneyland

Posted: 15 Jun 2012 09:27 AM PDT

Some 45 minutes drive from Beijing to the Great Wall of China, standing the ruins of China's deserted fake Disneyland. Occupied around 100 acres of land, construction of 'the largest amusement park in Asia' stopped more than a decade ago. Funds were withdrawn due to disagreements over property prices with the local government and farmers. So what is left are the skeletal remains of a palace, a castle, and the steel beams of what could have been an indoor playground in the middle of a corn field.

All these structures of rusting steel and decaying cement, are another sad example of property development in China involving wasted money, wasted resources and the uprooting of farmers and their families. It is a reflection of the country's over growth property market which many analysts worried a massive increase in inflation and a speculative bubble that might burst, considering that property sales contribute to around 10 percent of China's growth.

Euthanasia Coaster by Julijonas Urbonas

Posted: 13 Jun 2012 08:59 AM PDT

Julijonas Urbonas, a PhD in Design Interactions at the Royal College of Art has designed a hypothetical euthanasia machine in the form of a roller coaster ride meant to end a person life as humanely and euphorically as possible. The 500-meter structure is designed for its rider to experience a series of intensive motion elements that induce various unique experiences: from euphoria to thrill, and from tunnel vision to loss of consciousness and, eventually, lack of oxygen supply to the brain.

The roller coaster was inspired by a quote from John Allen, former president of the Philadelphia Toboggan Company: "The ultimate roller coaster is built when you send out 24 people and they all come back dead. This could be done, you know."

"Euthanasia Coaster" is a hypothetic euthanasia machine in the form of a roller coaster, engineered to humanely – with elegance and euphoria – take the life of a human being. Riding the coaster's track, the rider is subjected to a series of intensive motion elements that induce various unique experiences: from euphoria to thrill, and from tunnel vision to loss of consciousness, and, eventually, death. Thanks to the marriage of the advanced cross-disciplinary research in space medicine, mechanical engineering, material technologies and, of course, gravity, the fatal journey is made pleasing, elegant and meaningful. Celebrating the limits of the human body but also the liberation from the horizontal life, this 'kinetic sculpture' is in fact the ultimate roller coaster: John Allen, former president of the famed Philadelphia Toboggan Company, once sad that "the ultimate roller coaster is built when you send out twenty-four people and they all come back dead. This could be done, you know."
