The custom of wearing such a ring has spread widely beyond its origin in Ancient Egypt around 4000BC. Historically, wedding ring through different stages in history have been worn on different fingers, including the thumb, and on both the left and right hands. Interestingly, in many countries, even today, including Norway, Russia, Greece, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Poland, Austria, Germany,Portugal and Spain, the wedding ring in worn on the ring finger of the right hand and not the left. In Jewish tradition, the groom places the ring on the bride's index finger, and not the "ring" finger at all. The infographics below will provide us with a glimpse of the history of wedding ring.
