The wedding ring or wedding band has a surprisingly longer history than what we had thought. The custom of wearing such a ring has spread widely beyond its origin in Ancient Egypt around 4000BC. Historically, wedding ring through different stages in history have been worn on different fingers, including the thumb, and on both the left and right hands. Interestingly, in many countries, even today, including Norway, Russia, Greece, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Poland, Austria, Germany,Portugal and Spain, the wedding ring in worn on the ring finger of the right hand and not the left.
